Week 3: Aparigraha/Non Possessiveness AND Saucha/Purity

Week THREE is all about finding BALANCE and ACCEPTING the things that we cannot change.

Each day allows us the possibility to START ANEW and change the way we approach certain situations.
  • For this week, let's find our focus on dropping what we know to make a place for new energy and insight.
  • Give up your need to be right and just create space to LET life unfold.

Every day this week the intention is for you to:

-MEDITATE for 5 minutes
-PRACTICE at least 20 minutes of yoga/movement
-JOURNAL every day about what you are experiencing and discovering.
-BONUS ACTIVITY: the rock exercise will be outlined in your journaling questions.

Keep up the good work!

5: Aparigraha: Non-Attachment

Non-possessiveness is refraining from possessing, grasping, or clinging to any person, event, or thing.

Practices for non possessiveness:
• Let the breath teach you: if you don’t fully let go of the exhalation, the full nourishment of the inhalation is not available. Holding on is a toxic action.
• Fully enjoy each thing without needing it to repeat itself.
• Live with curiosity, not expectations
• Let go of control and be willing to be surprised
• Practice generosity and trust  "

“Aparigraha invites us to let go and to pack lightly for our journey through life, all the while caring deeply and enjoying fully.” “Anything we cling to creates a maintenance problem for us.” In what way has your need to possess created a prison for you?

Aparigraha, the practice of non-possessiveness, teaches us to release our grasp on people, experiences, and things, trusting that life unfolds as it should. The ego, seeking security and control, clings to what is familiar—relationships, achievements, even identities—out of fear of loss or change. But in doing so, we create our own suffering, locking ourselves in a prison of attachment. Just as the breath must be fully exhaled to make space for the next inhale, we, too, must learn to let go in order to receive. When we hold on too tightly, whether to an expectation, a past success, or a material possession, we limit our ability to experience life as it is, fresh and unfolding in each moment. The higher self, in contrast, moves with trust, embracing the impermanence of all things and finding freedom in the flow of life.

To practice aparigraha is to shift from clinging to curiosity, from control to openness, from grasping to generosity. It means fully enjoying each moment without demanding it to repeat itself, appreciating what is here without fearing its departure. When we release the need to possess, we make space for joy that is unburdened and love that is free. As Deborah Adele reminds us, “Aparigraha invites us to let go and to pack lightly for our journey through life, all the while caring deeply and enjoying fully.” The paradox is that in letting go, we actually experience more—not less—of life’s beauty. What is one thing you can loosen your grip on today, trusting that by doing so, you are making room for something new?

6: Saucha: Purity/Cleanliness

Purity is the active pursuit of letting go.
● It invites us to purify our bodies, our thoughts, and our words
● It invites us to be purely available to each moment as it happens

Practices for purity:
● Lighten your “load” wherever it is.
● Physical weight
● Mental clutter
● Emotional rigidity
● Messy living space
● Allow things to be as they are, not as you wish they were
● Be pure “with” something; don’t try to “make” it pure
● Let go of judgments, expectations, opinions, disappointment
● Keep from attempting to change yourself or hide from yourself
● Slow down
● Do one thing at a time

“Whatever form purifying takes, it always begins with an intention to ‘lighten’ the load we are carrying.” Where is the heaviness in your life?

Saucha, the practice of purity, is an active invitation to lighten our load—physically, mentally, and emotionally—so that we can be fully present to life as it unfolds. The ego often clings to clutter, whether in the form of excess possessions, racing thoughts, rigid expectations, or emotional baggage. This accumulation weighs us down, leaving us disconnected from the clarity and ease that purity offers. The higher self, however, understands that true purity is not about forcing perfection but about creating spaciousness. When we release the need to control or resist what is, we become more available to each moment as it happens, experiencing life with a sense of openness and flow. Purity is not an endpoint; it is a practice of continually letting go.

Engaging in saucha means becoming aware of the places where heaviness resides and intentionally creating space—clearing out physical clutter, softening mental rigidity, and releasing the emotional weight of judgments, expectations, and disappointments. It is about being pure with something rather than trying to make it pure, embracing reality as it is rather than how we wish it to be. Whether through slowing down, doing one thing at a time, or allowing ourselves to be seen as we truly are, purity invites a return to simplicity and authenticity. As Deborah Adele reminds us, “Whatever form purifying takes, it always begins with an intention to ‘lighten’ the load we are carrying.” What can you let go of today to create more space for clarity, ease, and presence in your life?
